“On September 16th, Double your pleasure...”
Those wildly talented kids behind AvroKo are up to their wonderful tricks again with Double Crown, set top open September 16th.
Their second “self-propelled” or proprietary restaurant with their Public chef and partner (and brother to Adam) Brad Farmerie, their goal was to explore the dualities of the cuisines born from the nineteenth century British presence in the countries of the Far East, including India, Singapore and China.
Brad created the menu with Chef de Cuisine Chris Rendell, a native of Melbourne, Australia, who comes to New York from London’s celebrated Mews of Mayfair. A draft menu includes dishes like Coronation Chicken, which debuted at Queen Victoria’s crowning, and is revived here with curried mango and golden raisins as a filling for tea sandwiches. Other plates include Tandoori Marinated Foie Gras with Earl Grey prunes and a Singapore Laksa with green tea noodles.
Wine director Rubén Sanz Ramiro (of Public and The Monday Room) has curated a global list of 100 labels with an emphasis on natural wines and those made outside the AOC and DOC denominations. The design of the space combines elements of austere Western churches with the more intricate drama of Asian temples. Double Crown also features a separate bar and lounge, Madam Geneva, for eating and drinking into the wee hours.
Double Crown is located at 316 Bowery, at Bleeker Street, 212-254-0350, www.doublecrown-nyc.com
